Strategies for keeping motivated on your weight loss journey

If you’ve just joined one of our groups – or thinking about joining, motivation is a key aspect of slimming and it’s important to remind yourself why you’re taking this challenge on. At the same time, losing weight can be easy – extra easy! – but sometimes we all need a little extra boost along the way.

One of the best ways to keep yourself motivated is by attending your group each week – there’s a bunch of people just like you, all working hard to lose weight and live a healthier life. But group support is very powerful and is one of the key ways how Slimming World works, through IMAGE Therapy. Give yourself 1 hour a week to spend time to reflect, plan and motivate others with their weight loss journey – it’s a great team to be on, and you can help each other along the way too.

Become part of the team

If you’re following Slimming World on your own, you can make things easier for you by getting involved during group each week – chat with other members, and take the opportunity to ask questions along the way. If you’re stuck with something or have any queries about any aspect of the plan, this is a great opportunity to ask as you may find that other members are in the same position. And who better to hear suggestions or strategies but from fellow members and target members who have been in the same place – and may have the answer you need?!

Take small steps

As they say, “Rome wasn’t built in a day”. Every step counts along the way and although some weeks you may feel that progress is small, or maybe even has stopped for the moment, have a look at the bigger picture ahead. You’re building a future where you’re going to be happier and healthier as a result. Everything counts and works towards your goal.

Celebrate your achievements

Members in group receive weight loss certificates as they progress through their own, individual journey. This is designed to celebrate their achievements and remind them of how far they’ve come. But at the same time, it’s incredibly powerful for members as they are praised on their achievements and what they’ve done. Those small steps (before) have added up – and look at the result! But it’s also non-scale wins as well. Did you avoid the biscuits in the meeting at work today, or decide to head out for a walk at lunchtime? Again, these all add up, and well done on making a difference to your lifestyle.

Variety

Everyone can get stuck in a rut and find that they’re doing the same things day in day out. It can get very boring, and trying something new along the way is a great way to avoid being bored. Try something different for dinner, take a walk through the park or even plan ahead things which you’re going to try this week. Make it exciting, something you haven’t done before. Some members in our group have suddenly found themselves at a Zumba class, or even walking around the park with other mums and pushchairs in the morning – and made a routine of it. Something they may not have tried before, but still, enjoyed and have tried again.

Keeping yourself motivated through your weight loss journey is really important to ensure you don’t get bored or find you’re slipping away from the good things you’re doing. Keep it up, and share with others in your group so that you can help others along their way.
