Survey – Eight in 10 students gain weight at University

A culture of stress, drinking and unhealthy eating is leading eight in 10 students to gain weight during their time at university, according to a new survey.
The results of the survey carried out by Slimming World show 82% of students piled on the pounds while studying. And while people often talk about ‘Freshman 15’ – the 15lb students are said to gain during their first year of study – the survey found that more than a quarter (26%) of students who reported putting on weight during their studies actually returned home from their first year between 14lb and 28lb heavier.
By the end of their university career, nearly two-thirds (62%) of those who said they gained weight had put on between 1st and 5st – a stone is equal to 14lbs.
