Walden Farms products and Slimming world

Walden farms chocolate sauceI’ve recently had a Slimming World member ask about Walden Farms products which they’ve seen on the internet (through Facebook).

Walden Farms state that their products are calorie free and sugar free. After adding the details of one product through the Syns Calculator on Lifeline Online, the product showed as being free due to the content, however things may be too good to be true.

Although the product turned out to be free from the nutritional values, the product itself appeared to have no chocolate in at all (despite being a chocolate sauce) and instead had a lot of chemicals inside.

Our head office looked into these products:

The packaging clearly states that they contain no calories and this is correct as they are all chemicals!

Not only can this type of product be potentially harmful and have unpleasant side effects, i.e. bloating and or diarrhoea, if a member is consuming them in large quantities, we are concerned that if members eat these freely it is giving out the message that it is okay to eat large amounts of a type of product that should never be Free, i.e. Peanut Butter and Mayo.

The old saying is that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Think logically, Chocolate sauce is sadly never going to be something you can eat in unlimited amounts(!)

For now, I’d recommend heading for plenty of Superfree foods and instead enjoy your Syns on any of the products available in your normal supermarket.
